Safety
Always a primary concern, we were one of
Western Pennsylvania’s first contractors to have a Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Certified Workplace
Safety Committee. For several years, we have been recipients of
the Master Builders Association Certificate of Commendation for
achieving Safety Excellence for having an accident rate below the
national average for construction employers.
Our Safety Committee is composed of a representation of all facets of
the organization and meets regularly to monitor our progress and needs.
Foremen and journey persons are routinely instructed on safety
awareness and have direct communication to any of the Safety Committee
members for suggestions regarding our efforts and safety procedures.
Our continuing education classes have included: Asbestos
Awareness, Asbestos Mask Fit Tests, Confined Space Training, First Aid
& CPR Classes, Hazard Communications, and several OSHA Courses on
Construction Standards and Competent Person Training.
Consistent with the Drug-Free Workplace Act and Omnibus Drug Act,
illegal drugs are prohibited in or around the workplace. All Ferry
Electric company personnel participate in a structured drug testing program through
IBEW Local Union # 5.
James R. Ferry is also a member of the MBA’s Safety Committee.
