A Collaborative Delivery

The most successful projects have all team members working in a transparent and collaborative fashion, within a culture of trust, respect and accountability. Together we deliver the optimal project in terms of quality, efficiency, value, safety, and end-user satisfaction.

We believe a collaborative delivery method improves project outcomes.

how construction should be done

Our industry is constantly facing increased demands to produce greater value, higher quality, and faster project delivery. Yet many insist on repeating the process with complex, fragmented teams which are driven by self-interest rather than shared purpose, are often contentious, and frequently fail to deliver successful outcomes.

A project won’t meet it’s full potential unless everyone works together

Our DA/IPD Team will include a Project Manager to lead the DA/IPD process for Ferry Electric Company.  Additionally, at all times through the life of any DA/IPD project (precon and construction) our Project Managers work with the Field Foreman and our BIM team. They are all supported by a PM Assistant, an Estimator, a Prefab Foreman, and the General Superintendent. This structure is designed to allow the PM to focus his efforts on the project, the customer, and the process, while the support is there to execute and provide resources as needed.

We work with our customers for budgeting an honest and fair representation of the total project. We work with the design team and offer our input on the design, installation methods, and materials selections. We offer perspective on successful alternatives we have used and offer insight to regional construction materials and methods. We utilize our staff and vendor relations to offer equipment and material selections, pricing options, submittal services, permitting and the like. We provide real-time pricing as well as availability feedback for all value engineering ideas and options.

We use the DA/IPD time to plan our own off-site fabrication often involving the BIM and  manufacturing vendors. We use this time for our foreman to learn the job on paper and plan his work. This helps us to control costs, plan the project better, and flatten our manpower curves, all of which drive savings for the owner.

DESIGN build

Every electrical system we design and install offers the best value to our customers.

Design / Build Benefits
  • Value-driven early pricing
  • Maximum design efficiency and constructibility
  • Cooperative non-adversarial relationships
  • Projects designed and built more smoothly and in less time

The traditional method for completing construction projects consists of three distinct phases: the design phase, the bid phase, and the build phase.

This delivery method is very common in the industry and Ferry Electric Company has decades of experience with DBB. Although very popular, this method of delivery can be the most time consuming and because of the process and hierarchical nature of DBB the feedback loop outside of the O/A/E team is largely missing. Contracts are generally awarded based on lowest price.

Ferry Electric Company participates in the Bid phase and has had much success on DBB projects over the years. Often we are called to work with the O/A/E team on Value Engineering to help improve cost efficiencies and constructibility. We welcome opportunities to bid on DBB projects.

Ferry Electric Company is a valuable project partner

We utilize many of our ITB/DA/DB skills to consult with our clients in the evaluation and redesign of existing electrical documents to better meet the owner's needs and budgets. Our fine reputation has been built on nearly 100 years of successful electrical designs and installations.

Our CAD / BIM ability is the best because we partner with the best. Unlike trade contractors who want to be a master of everything, we partner with capable experts in the CAD / BIM field. We use the Pittsburgh leader in Measure, Draft, Model, Visualize, as our premier partner on all of our BIM projects. We have extensive experience working with them and have never had a project that was less than optimally successful.

Ferry Electric Company is a user of the efficient and exact robotic station layout methods for speed and accuracy and a trailblazer of new technologies in the field. Among first in the region to use: BIM/CAD/3D Models, Robotic Total Station, Paperless Field/Office Communication, iPads, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, Navisworks, RealWear Assisted Reality, and the custom Ferry Electric Company Mobile Safety App.

We use prefabrication on every project to improve the construction schedule, reduce job site manpower, and perform safer work. The benefits are injury-free employees, higher efficiency, smoother manpower curves, greater accuracy, and cleaner jobsites.  With a full-time Prefab Foreman, dedicated shop space, specialized tools, and assigned resources, we are the leader in Prefabrication in the Pittsburgh area.
